Shibu

Posted on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 17:28 by Registered Commenterdaycruz in | Comments91 Comments | References1 Reference

I didn't post on it earlier but I thought it would be the best time now. For those of you who aren't really involved in the goings on of the Malayalee Pentecostal community in the United States, I thought I'd fill you in. Shibu Mathai and his wife Jamie moved to Oregon about two months ago. They moved to Lebanon of all places and were already getting involved in ministries there. The couple came to our church in July, and immediately made an impact. Although I don't remember what Shibu spoke about that day at our church, I remember being blessed by it. The young couple came to our house later, and I had a great conversation with Jamie and Shibu. I had an inkling in my heart that they would be a great blessing to the Portland area. I told him about the large mission field here, and he started talking about looking for a job here. Last weekend, in Oklahoma, he jumped into a lake at a church picnic to save his 13 year old niece from drowning. I'm not sure how, but Shibu was able to rescue his niece but was caught by the water himself. The news story can be found here.  The beach pictures that you saw on this website had no pictures of us at the beach because we found out about the news after we were there for about ten minutes on the sand- we lost any joy in being there and just drove home.

The latest on this is that they are praying for Shibu. There were many prophecies made over Shibu which detailed the work he was going to do for God in the future. Some of you will be shocked at this, the truth is- they are praying for Shibu to rise up from the dead. This is a sincere prayer to a God who has promised us that he will give us our good desires. As some of you know, I am the biggest skeptic but then I saw this video online-- and yes it is him. I gave a call to the people who run that ministry and they confirmed that their church is praying, along with his family and friends, for Shibu to rise up from the dead. They told me that it was just one of many prophecies made over Shibu before he died.

My take: God can do anything. Absolutely anything. My dad was healed completely from life-endangering injuries from a car accident in the Libyan desert. Doctors told him he could not walk again- my father could destroy you at a game of kabaddi today. Yet, that was God's will for him. I don't know God's will for Shibu, only He does. Yet I am willing to support this family and pray for God to do a miracle here. It sounds crazy, but our God can do whatever the heck he wants. People up and down North America are already praying for him. If you believe, join them today.

UPDATE:  Please understand, there are more sections to this site. You are looking at the first post on this topic. Although DayCruz knows the family, he is in no way connected to what is going on. Neither is Dippu.com. I have made a post about the comments on this post at the very top of this website. You can go to it by clicking here. The body will be buried sometime in the next week. It has been taken out of the church. Here is the latest post on the whole issue.

I found a summary of the prophesy but not the actual script. The video seems to have been taken off the web. Can someone post the actual script? Thank you.

In response to
"EXPLAIN THOSE FEW WHO WILL TURN AWAY FROM THE FAITH BECAUSE SHIBU WAS NOT RAISED, ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH WHO PRAYED FERVENTLY?"

You need to have more faith in your God, rejoice
for the hundreds or youth who have a faith beyond the comprehension of this world who are praying for this miracle right now.

Do you really believe God will let the little ones that belive in his name fall away so easily. Your concern is of this world but please again commit this to the Lord in prayer because he will not let this happen. When we are praying to see the GLORY of god why are we doubting in trivial matters, he has chosen this generation for a reason and his plan will be accomplished.
To the ones who wonder why we have waited so long, maybe its preparation to see GODS GLORY, maybe we needed to pray and prepare ourselves for this.

To the people who are critical of the family "who are we to judge how the holy sprit leads others to pray " I belive Dr Mathai is a man of God and if the Holy spirit has lead him in this manner we need to put aside our pregeduces and standby our fellow Christians in faith.

Brother SP Chicago,

Dear Brother, you are right about the fact I should have more faith. I apologize to the many who read these posts, that comment should not have been written. However, Brother is that not a faint possibillity though. I commend you brother SP Chicago for rebuking and reproving my short coming and pointng it out to me. I need to sit more in God's presence and recieve words from Him, not my own words.
Thanks

All,
I was following the thread all along and would like to raise couple of questions/doubts here :

Personally , I don't know Shibu & his family and got the news from my relative , that his son was contacted by the Youths in OK to pray for the "resurrection of Shibu". I heard , the main reason the family is praying for Shibu is to fulfill the Prophesies "delivered by " Kimberly and in turn , They would like to see their loved one back to life . I can definitely see the agony , pain ,hope , faith ,love , GOD, human behavior & emotions here.

1. Did the GOD reveal anything to Shibu or Family , in line with Kimberly's vision, before Shibu's tragic end /joyous beginning of his eternal life ?

2. If praying for the dead is in line with the Bible, Why malayalee Pentecostal people behave differently when people from other Christian segments( Jacobites, Catholics etc..) pray for their loved ones when it comes to their death anniversaries or , for that matter , any days ?

3. To those , Who are not supporting this prayer to "raise the dead" , Do you think "Sense should prevail" ?

4. To those , Who are supporting this prayer , What if Shibu doesn't come back to life ? Do you blame Kimberly , the youth , Shibu's family or our GOD ?

5. Angel Dinakaran ( D.G.S. Dinakaran's daughter ) killed in an accident and they prayed for a week for her return (Heard it from Paul Dinakaran ), realized God's intention and buried her. Why do people think that those who are closer to GOD won't die?

6. Don't you all think it is time for someone , closer to the Mathais , to intervene , make that bold step to burry Shibu and leave everything to GOD ?

Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."

My intention was not to rebuke you but to point out that our GOD is a all powerful, so at times our logic is limited and we need to submit more to his will.

Sometimes we should just step back and let the Holysprit lead us in ways that are beyond our understanding.

Lets respect the greiving family and step back and give them some credit for their FAITH for clearly their faith is stronger than ours. Lets also quietly reflect on the fact that VCF and its leadership has also been lead by the Holy sprit to wait on the LORD for this miracle so rather than being critical lets believe and hope to see the GLORY of GOD.

As far as the youth is concerned lets leave them in the hands of our GOOD SHEPARD for he will lead them accordingly.

Well said SP Chicago,
I understand your viewpoint. Let me make my stand on this whole issue clear:
"Despise not prophesy" 1 Thessalonians 5:20 God can raise Shibu, it is a matter of our faith and spiritual standing. I am not against this, let's just make sure that in the end our God is recieving the Glory.

To B. Varghese above, your questions and doubts are very much understandable. Let me address your questions:
#1 Question: I don't know the exact details
# 2 Question Catholics and Jacobites, as to my knowledge, pray for the deceased soul so that it might find rest, it is not a prayer for ressurection, as is the case here. As Pentacostals and according to Scripture we believe that immediatly following death the human soul goes to either Heaven or Hell, no other place in between. Purgatory is not Biblical. The souls of the dead do not roam around the earth seeking rest. They are at rest in Heaven or in torment in Hell. Praying for someone to raise from the dead does NOT correlate with what Catholics or Jacobites do. Hope you understand, if not let me know I will show you Scriptural evidence. So we are not praying for the dead, we are praying that if God willing He might give lie back to Shibu-which are two different things.
#3 Question: When we talk about our Christ and His miracles, all sense and logic is thrown out the window. God knows and will reveal to the Mathais' what is sensible.
#4 Question: Blame does not fall on anyone as of right now. There is no blame on the youth or anyone praying because they are praying with fervency and much desire to se a miracle. How could you blame Shibu's family? They are stuck with tragedy, that blame would be unbearable for them. As for Kimberly, let God decide.
#5 Question: Nobody said that people closer to God won't die. In fact, the devil is after them more to destroy them. But God bears them in Hid hands if they remain steadfast and faithful to him. Death is something all of us, Lord's coming tarry, will have to go through no matter how holy or close to God we are.
#6 Question: if God wants to tell them something specific He will speak to the Mathais and let His will be known, this not a case of man being bold and stepping forward. Those steps forward should be with God's guidence.

Dear Brother, hopefully some of your doubt is gone, give your doubt to Christ and he will fill it with His heavenly knowledge and wisdom. If you want I can give you the Bible referances for these. When I first joined this post, I did have a bit of doubt, but by hearing the faith of Isaac and Robert Burns I was encouraged and have renewed my faith that God can and will do miracles, the question is are you prepared to recieve?

Thanks , Pastor Thomas. When I spoke to a Pentecostal Pastor , He said , "Most of the Pentecostals are against this prayer but some of them are supporting it ". So , Who is right and who is wrong ?
Now the "chapter is closed" and hopefully, We all learn from this incident.

Our deepest condolences goes to Shibu's wife , parents and friends.

Brother Varghese,
Yes the Malayalee community was deeply divided over this issue. But that does not make either side false or wrong. Does that make Kimberly false? Not always, in this instance she spoke out of her knowledge, instead of listening to God's Spirit. Let this be a lesson to all of us, that while prophesying may be God's gift, see if it is Biblical before you nosedive into it. We need to be careful of everything we hear, just because someone puts Christ and quotes a few Bible verses does not make them of Christ. Even the devil knows Scripture. My dear brothers and sisters in Christ our Lord is coming soon, we will meet Shibu along with thousands of saints on that Glorious day!
