I didn't post on it earlier but I thought it would be the best time now. For those of you who aren't really involved in the goings on of the Malayalee Pentecostal community in the United States, I thought I'd fill you in. Shibu Mathai and his wife Jamie moved to Oregon about two months ago. They moved to Lebanon of all places and were already getting involved in ministries there. The couple came to our church in July, and immediately made an impact. Although I don't remember what Shibu spoke about that day at our church, I remember being blessed by it. The young couple came to our house later, and I had a great conversation with Jamie and Shibu. I had an inkling in my heart that they would be a great blessing to the Portland area. I told him about the large mission field here, and he started talking about looking for a job here. Last weekend, in Oklahoma, he jumped into a lake at a church picnic to save his 13 year old niece from drowning. I'm not sure how, but Shibu was able to rescue his niece but was caught by the water himself. The news story can be found here. The beach pictures that you saw on this website had no pictures of us at the beach because we found out about the news after we were there for about ten minutes on the sand- we lost any joy in being there and just drove home.
The latest on this is that they are praying for Shibu. There were many prophecies made over Shibu which detailed the work he was going to do for God in the future. Some of you will be shocked at this, the truth is- they are praying for Shibu to rise up from the dead. This is a sincere prayer to a God who has promised us that he will give us our good desires. As some of you know, I am the biggest skeptic but then I saw this video online-- and yes it is him. I gave a call to the people who run that ministry and they confirmed that their church is praying, along with his family and friends, for Shibu to rise up from the dead. They told me that it was just one of many prophecies made over Shibu before he died.
My take: God can do anything. Absolutely anything. My dad was healed completely from life-endangering injuries from a car accident in the Libyan desert. Doctors told him he could not walk again- my father could destroy you at a game of kabaddi today. Yet, that was God's will for him. I don't know God's will for Shibu, only He does. Yet I am willing to support this family and pray for God to do a miracle here. It sounds crazy, but our God can do whatever the heck he wants. People up and down North America are already praying for him. If you believe, join them today.
UPDATE: Please understand, there are more sections to this site. You are looking at the first post on this topic. Although DayCruz knows the family, he is in no way connected to what is going on. and to james, ...i couldn't find anything in it which made me question it, ...but questioning prophecy is a legitimate thing to do as you would agree, ..as many mix their carnality with what God gives them, ..but the same can be said with preachers, teachers, evangelists and anyone who comes to you in the name of religion, ...the one who opposes God's way comes as an angel of light
we should be careful to maintain a certain respect for the families directly affected by this event from oregon, illinois, oklahoma etc....... i don't know them very well, ..but i do know them enough to know that they are truly a special group of people, ..very different from the rest of the religious community, ...if you were in trouble, they would be the first ones there.....truly they are God's people
To the Mathai family if you read this, if the words spoken in this forum have hurt your minds or weakened your faith please in God's love forgive me and all of us. We mean no harm, we simply wish you the best and stand behind you, even though our views may not match.it was and continues to be a tremendous honor and privelage to read what all you wonderful people from around the country and world have to say. Let's not be divided over petty issues. If God raises Shibu good, he is back, but if not that is good too, he is withthe Lord. Tommorrow is Sunday, I hope each one of you enjoy your time in fellowship with belivers and members of the Heavenly Kingdom.

Someone above said that they are testing God not trusting Him. I agree. Recently in Gujarat, two men prayed that the nearest mountain should be cast into the sea, as hrist said. Their prayers were fervent, and they prayed tearfully, but the mountain did not move-why-because they tested God in their minds.
God can and will do miracles, but what is your real motive. I see only the fact that "prophets" do not want to look like liars. In Jeramiah, God's tells the people not to listen to the dreamers, prophets, and diviners, because He has not sent them even though they speak in His name. This not to weaken your faith, but to live a careful Christian life

Are you saying that your church is full of truth and that their church is false and filled with lies? Questioning is good but doubt is not. If Jesus was preaching right now would you question his word or would you take it at 100 percent because he is Lord and Savior.
Who has sent prophets or messengers or ? Do you say the Lord uses no human being to speak in his name. When someone speaks in what they think were words from the Lord to another and was 100 percent right, do you say this is not of the Lord but of the evil spirits or Satan?
If I bring forth a message to another and it becomes full filled then do you say I am evil when they accept the Lord as their Savior. As I said to a friend I would rather sacrafice my soul in order to save another. I guess that the Lord shall condemn me for speaking of things before they happen. I guess the Lord has not sent me to speak all that I speak.
May God open everyones eyes so that they may see the true glory of the Lord!

Your point is valid and well taken, but as I said above in a previous post, let this issue finish, then say whatever you want about the "prophet". Keep your cool, because all Brother Burns said was that the Lord works in mysterious ways, and our hearts should be open to whoever he speaks through. Prophets are simply messengers of God's voice, like a mailman, if you will.
Are there false prophets, sure, but that does not make everyone false. Continue to pray J. Kurian and I believe God will reveal His truth to you.

When I was at Ground Zero last year (sept.10/11) a man came to me and said he was told earlier to come to a specific spot at a specific time and there would be a man who would answer all his problems etc. he was to look for a medium. Before he started in on his problem I said I don't believe in mediums or any of those titles. I began to just speak in the name of the Lord and even though I didn't know his problems the Lord spoke through me to him hearing what he was told he would here but in more detail and more direction. I believe I do not do anything other than the Lords work. The Lord allowed me to speak to many people last year and G.Z. I am nervous every time I speak out for fear of being wrong. It was also the Lord that has brought a servant of the Lord from queens, NY a young lady and I together as friend so that we may have study in the name of the Lord. She listened to the voice of the Lord. Let's not shut ourselves from the Lords voice. Try living in silence for a time and block out all the worldly things so that you can hear the Lord speak. I am on my 5th day of fasting and my greatest pray is that the Lord not use this situation not to persecute anyone but teach those involved.
As for the prophetess perhaps it was blasphemy but the Lord is a just and merciful God. This is a chance to help and guide those we know who may speak to quickly. John Kurian, lets be as patient and loving just as our Lord is. With compassion comes good. If you hear someone speak out then it is up to those Christians to seek the Lord with great intensity so that the trueness may be brought out. Someone speaking out is usually a sign that something will happen. Keep your mind open to all possibilities and do the Lords work and pray, pray, pray. Many Christians go to church on Sunday and they say they are Christians but during the rest of the week they stop doing the Lords work and commit many sins, now is that worse than committing one error.
Walk by Faith and not by sight!

She is a false prophet! Let's return to the Word of God.
I am trying to be patient brother, but as the issue has prolonged now for over 20 days, (God can raise after 100 days), and I am left wondering whether if this is really God's will. In the Bible, the dead were raised with one word, maybe there is a valuable lesson we all can learn from this.
Thanks Pastor S. Thomas I will continue to pray. May God continue to help you guide others when they are a bit confused. Let us be vigilant with prayer.
It is the Lords will that we learn love and compassion from this moment in time. Do not look at this so that you doubt or show weakness in front of those who are seeking the Lord. Use this as a tool to teach in the Lords name to make those who seek stronger, especially in the times in which we live. Speak boldy for the Lord. I just learned the other day of what an ex manager said about me even though he painted an other image in front of me. Because of my beliefs he had also kept me from being promoted. Later that day after kayaking, I continued to be frustrated by this. I opened a book and it talked about what the Bible says" Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God." As soon as I read this the frustration left and all I can do is pray for this man who spoke ill of me because of my beliefs. He does not believe in God. I am now going to be promoted because of the new manager. I prayed that he be gone and the Lord answered my prayers. Now I pray for another to go as he has also bound me. He will be going very soon. Even though I was bound the Lord has taught many lessons. I do not condemn these people for there disbelief in the Lord, but I pray for there understanding and when the time comes that they have to make that decision I pray they will look back for that split moment and say wow he was right and hopefully it's enough so that they may stand at heavens gates with all who believe.
Dear Brother, I want you to do one thing for me. Before you say one more thing about this prophet, Type her name, Kimberly Rivera, online on a search engine and somehow find some info on her. You may ask why don't I just do it, but in God's unfailing love I ask am asking you to find some solid info on her and post it on this board. Whether she is false or not, it is not right that we publically demote and persecute her without some solid evidence. You may say that the "prophecy" is good evidence, true, but for your benefit and mine and others, let's see who this person really is. Remember if you accuse someone who is of God, the sword will come back on you, not her. So just be sure on what you say.

I am doing nothing; I am just a worm, mere dust in His sight. I am humbled to be talking to a man of prayer as yourself, as I can see by your writings. You are right, even in death, Shibu has done a ministry; he has brought many across the globe to look at the Lord he so dutifully served. I appreciate the research Brother Burns. Your labor for Christ is not in vain. May God Bless the ministry He has given you.
Paul dear brother, by your posts I realize you are knowledgeable and zealous in the Word. I hope you have done some research of your own about her, and looked at what Robert Burns has posted. Continue in your faith, I am not asking you to change your convictions, simply be led by the Spirit and do not speak out of anger. If you really are convicted this is false teaching, use more Scripture as you have been doing and clearly back up your claim. This is a message board; all of us here are all ears about what you have to say. I for one am willing to hear and learn, what’s in your heart.Read the prophecy, and tell us why you think it is false. I am no teacher or scholar; I have much to learn too. I have simply skimmed the surface of a vast ocean full of Biblical treasure.
