Blog Quake Day

I started writing this post listening to the Goo Goo Dolls' Better Days.
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
[Considering how Instapundit calls DesiPundit's idea explicitly modelled on the Katrina relief effort, I think it quite fair that I be moved by the same song that cnn is playing while showing Katrina relief ads.]
I sit  here, far away from the rubble and dust, staring at a flourescent screen that gives me no visceral feel for the devastation that stalks the world these days. hurricanes, mudslides, earthquakes. nature joins famine, war and pestilence to prowl our forlorn planet. As I await the beginning of the end, words are empty comfort in a world where the very foundations of the earth have buckled and torn apart human lives into so many fragments of elemental pain.
A post today, and maybe some of you will be moved to help. I sometimes wonder that all the destruction has passed me by, and I can afford the luxury of empty words while hiding on the other end of this stream of bytes, but I dont have to settle for it.
I won't. Join the effort.
I'm putting my money where my mouth is.  I'll put in a dollar for every commenter who comments and donate the amount to UNICEF.
Please take a moment to contribute in some way to help alleviate the suffering.
Thanks, anna, for reminding us all.
UPDATE: DayCruz here, I've decided to also put my money where my heart is or something like that-- I will be matching Zimbly Mallu's donations. Enigma has also decided to do this. So please- tell your friends. You are welcome to donate more by clicking on the links provided.  I will be donating to World Vision.
UPDATE: Add Bobby to the list, this makes it 4 dollars per comment. Awesome!

Over at Dippu, ZimblyMallu (aka Pramod) has decided to “put his mouth where his heart is”. If anyone of you reading this were moved by what happened in India and Pakistan because of the earthquake, take the time to head over and comment di...

I recently started a new job with an govt org. that is assisting victims of the recent earthquakes, floods-- natural disasters in general. The no. of victims and damages done to their property is astronomical. The stories of little children suffering -- elderly seniors left abandoned-- imagine their loss!

At least in the United States, we have various organizations that can step in expedite the recovery process-- unfortunately- thats not true in India or Pakistan- they need as much as help as they can get.

So with that said and done, I"d also like to match one dollar for each comment posted here. It's my way to help. I'm only posting this to encourage everyone else to pitch in. I have nothing else to gain.India needs us, now is the time to help.

Here's what motivated me:

"Much is required from those to whom much has been given" (Luke 12:48).

Hi! i'm Persis from Mumbai, obviously more ofa next door Neighbour to Pakistan.you probably do know that India has opened up her borders to allow easy access into the affected areas. Yeah!tis funny that i help my neighbours via a faraway land like America. But it is really nice to see young people like you willing and doing your bit for people who are suffering and in despair. God Bless you.

oh but you'd be surprised at the efficiency of the indian ogvernment with disaster management. when chennai flooded yesterday, 50,000 packets of food were distributed by the end of the day. on the same day as the flood. in mumbai, the army was evacuating in 48 hours. when the mettur [ok i prolly got the name wrong] damn cracked from floods in tamil nadu, the army was plugging it the same day. when the tsunami hit th eindian navy was the first to reach most affected areas - sri lanka, male, etc. when a cyclone hit orissa few years ago, the govt of andhra pradesh was there in 12 hours with relief. and we tried to get pakistan to open borders the day the quake hit. army was already there!
not to say we dont need help, we need money. more than anything else. because we actually have the manpower and goodwill and the organisation to get there. we just need the money to do something when we do.

I have been spared from all these natural disastours all my life by the grace of God so I don't even know what it feels like to go through what they are going through. Thanks for taking the time to help out the victims of this Earthquake.

Here's my one dollar contribution.
i cannot say there is no truth in what stefan says. in fact, its comments like these that keep us grounded.
yes, i admit i can donate, and not tell a soul, and store up all that treasure in heaven.
and i cannot deny that blogging about the earthquake can bring visitors here. and daycruz articulated the rest of the story.

But the point is to come, read, DONATE to one of those organizations, and leave a comment.

The comments are your gestures of love. Its glad enough I am, that you would choose to trust me with them.

God speaks to me not through the thunder and the earthquake, nor through the ocean and the stars, but through the Son of Man, and speaks in a language adapted to my imperfect sight and hearing.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted... Mtt. 5:3-4

Peace.

I definetly understand that theEarthquake relie is "sorely lacking". When I heard it on the news that over 20,000 people had died I was shocked. But what more shocked me was that they only talked about it for five minutes. 9/11 and Katrina deaths don't even = 1/10 of the deaths yet those events will be covered for decades to come. The only people who even seem to care in the western hemishpere are people from the middle east.
Through this site the only people who are being informed are indians (and maybe a few of your friends of other ethnicities) and they are the ones who do not need to be informed.

You guys are doing a good job but in the end the money you raise will probably nothing compared to what is needed there (I'll admit that is more then what I'll give but then again I don't have any source of income). You guys should have in the original article or in a recent post at least ask for everyone to pray for these guys. If everyone prayed (maybe even fasted) for these victims I believe that would go a lot farther then $1 from each of us.
